About Us
Cambridgeshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) was created on 1 October 2006. It replaces the former Cambridge City, East Cambridgeshire and Fenland, Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire PCTs. In July 2008 we rebranded ourselves as NHS Cambridgeshire because we feel this better reflects our role.
NHS Cambridgeshire is responsible for improving the health of its local community by assessing what your health needs are and providing or developing services that respond to those needs. We provide some services ourselves including specialist children's services, integrated health and social care for older people, child and family nursing services and therapy services. You can access full details of the services provided by clicking on the 'local services' tab above. In line with national policy, these directly provided services have been established within an 'arms length' arrangement within NHS Cambridgeshire in preparation for the future separation of these from our commissioning function (explained below). We also, on your behalf, commission (buy) services from other NHS organisations including a wide range of hospitals and providers of mental health services. NHS Cambridgeshire is responsible for developing primary care services across Cambridgeshire including those services provided by your GP, dentist, pharmacist and optician. - NHS Cambridgeshire serves a population of circa 600,000.
Within NHS Cambridgeshire there are currently: - 76 GP practices
- 80 Dental practices
- 91 Pharmacies
