A new bowel cancer screening centre has opened in Cambridgeshire. The new Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke bowel cancer screening centre has been given the go-ahead by the NHS Cancer Screening Programme. NHS Cambridgeshire has announced the shortest waiting times for people in the county since NHS records began. In January this year, a new standard came into effect ensuring all patients in the NHS in England will be treated within 18 weeks. NHS Cambridgeshire has joined forces with Anglia Stroke & Heart Network to help raise awareness of stroke amongst people in Cambridgeshire. It is estimated that every year more than 1100 people in Cambridgeshire will have their first stroke and around 20% of those people will be under 65. Stroke is the third biggest killer in England and the single largest cause of disability. A stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted. There are two types of stroke and most strokes will occur when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the brain.
