11 September 2009 - ONE TOO MANY… ALCOHOL AND SEXUAL HEALTH NHS CAMBRIDGESHIRE SUPPORTS SEXUAL HEALTH WEEK 44 KB Research indicates that alcohol consumption can reduce inhibition, impair judgement and increase the likelihood of sexual risk taking12 , which in turn can increase the risk of contracting Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) or having an unintentiopregnancy. A 2007 study found that of those who had unprotected sex, 76% said they had done so as a result of drinking.
11 September 2009 - Changes to antiviral collection points in Cambridgeshire 36 KB From Friday 11 September, the antiviral collection point at Chesterton Medical Centre will be closing. Flu friends who are collecting antiviral medication on behalf of people with swine flu will now be able to go to a number of pharmacies across Cambridgeshire instead.

1 July 2009 - NEW BOWEL CANCER SCREENING CENTRE OPENS IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE 45 KB A new bowel cancer screening centre has opened in Cambridgeshire. The new Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke bowel cancer screening centre has been given the go-ahead by the NHS Cancer Screening Programme. Addenbrooke’s was given screening centre status in October 2007 – so the addition of the new Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke screening centre means that people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will now have access to bowel cancer screening services.

2 April 2009 - NHS CAMBRIDGESHIRE ANNOUNCE SHORTEST WAITING TIMES EVER FOR PEOPLE IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE 28 KB NHS Cambridgeshire has announced the shortest waiting times for people in the county since NHS records began. In January this year, a new standard came into effect ensuring all patients in the NHS in England will be treated within 18 weeks. In Cambridgeshire the national target has been met for a number of months, and in January 94.1% of patients who were admitted to hospital, and 98.2% of patients requiring treatment, but did not need to be admitted, were treated within 18 weeks - which exceeded the targets of 90% and 95%, respectively for the county.

6 March 2009 - New GP Led Health Centre for St Neots reaches next stage 23 KB NHS Cambridgeshire today announced that Malling Health is the preferred bidder for the new GP-Led Health Centre service for Cambridgeshire, which is to be based in St Neots. NHS Cambridgeshire is currently concluding contract negotiations that will lead to the award of the contract. This follows an open tender process which allowed interested parties to make a bid, and will result in a better access to GPs in Cambridgeshire and improved patient care.

27 February 2009 - NHS Cambridgeshire to increase stroke awareness across the county 37 KB NHS Cambridgeshire has joined forces with Anglia Stroke & Heart Network to help raise awareness of stroke amongst people in Cambridgeshire. It is estimated that every year more than 1100 people in Cambridgeshire will have their first stroke and around 20% of those people will be under 65. Stroke is the third biggest killer in England and the single largest cause of disability. A stroke happens when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted. There are two types of stroke and most strokes will occur when a blood clot blocks the flow of blood to the brain. In some cases a stroke is caused by bleeding in or around the brain from a burst blood vessel.
